EXPERIENCE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
STARFLEET GRADUATE: Yes STARFLEET RANK: Lieutenant Commander MEDICAL RANK: N/A STUDIES: Master-level hand-to-hand combat, Criminology, Interstellar Law enforcement, Starfleet Security Studies, Advanced Firearm usage, Combat Tactics and Survival Skills. DIVISION: Operations JOB TITLE: Security Special Operations Officer OTHER: N/A
STRENGTHS: Connor is dedicated to his job, and is extremely tenacious. He is also extremely skilled at what he does. Tactics, gunplay, detective work and especially martial arts; they all are a part of Connor.
He is also extremely physically fit due to his dedication, but also due to the fact he was raised on a larger planet than earth, which gives him a great amount of natural fitness due to Ivor Prime’s gravitational pull. Connor also has a fair amount of street smarts, having been raised around roughnecks.
WEAKNESSES: He tends to view certain moral questions in absolute terms, which leads to interpersonal conflict. He also tends to be a tad too zealous in his job, which can also lead to some complaints from his fellow Starfleet officers.
Another weakness Connor has, is that he tends to judge himself too harshly. If anything goes wrong on his watch, it’s his fault. Due to Connor’s past (explained below), Connor also tends to suffer from self-doubt.
PERSONAL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
APPEARANCE:
Connor is very physically fit, and he looks the part. He is very muscular and toned, but not to an unrealistic degree. He has medium length brown hair and brownish green eyes. He often carries himself with a very confident demeanor and is almost always armed.
PERSONALITY:
On the outside, Connor is a fun-loving, upbeat individual. He enjoys being with people and making them laugh. He’s often known to crack a joke or be the life of the party. In sharp contrast to this free-wheeling exterior is an intense dedication to upholding the law and “getting the bad guys”.
This zealousness borders on obsession and Connor will often go to extreme lengths to make sure good people stay safe and bad people get their just deserts. Connor is known to be “situationally aware” as he calls it, which could border on mild paranoia. Everyone is a suspect until evaluated.
HISTORY:
Ivor Prime is a technically a Federation colony on the books, but you wouldn’t know it once you stepped through the front gates. As Ivor Prime is far removed from the rest of the Federation, and depleted of all its useful resources, the once prosperous mining colony is now a haven for the lawless and the depraved. The local gang bosses make sure that either favors or force keep the Federation liaisons minding their paperwork and ignoring the widespread social decay.
It is here that Connor Payne was born. Connor’s father, Mike Payne, was a punch-drunk pit fighter who’d gotten drunk with a groupie wanting to lose her virginity in style. 9 months later, Connor was born in Mike Payne’s mold-ridden bathroom.
It didn’t take long for Mike to realize that he actually loved this little boy who’d been brought into his life. Connor’s mother wanted nothing to do with him, so Mike raised him as best he could. He started training and fighting harder to earn a better living for Connor. He eventually became known as one of the best fighters on Ivor Prime. Connor wanted to be like his dad, so he started learning how to fight from his dad, even though his dad wanted Connor to hit the books instead of other people, so he could leave Ivor Prime and make a better life for himself.
When Connor turned 13, the local crime lords had gotten wind of Connor’s existence. Mike was getting ready to retire, and focus on raising Mike. This upset the mob bosses greatly, as they made quite a bit of money betting on fights, and using fighters as high-level enforcers. They came to Mike, and told him unless he kept fighting, Connor would meet an unfortunate end.
Coerced back into the ring, Mike fought a bout with Nor’trar, a massive Naussican, who was the mob’s premier fighter and thug. He was the symbol of the wrath of the Crime Lords. It didn’t take him more than five minutes to break Mike Payne’s neck. Connor was devastated, and ran off, intent to stowaway on the first cargo ship leaving port. Connor swore that day that people like the Crime Lords, Nor’trar, and all the other crooks who had taken his father from him would pay.
Once Connor had gathered his things, he stowed away on a rickety old freighter known as the Siren. He was discovered by the crew before too much time had passed, and would’ve been tossed into an escape pod and jettisoned back to Ivor Prime if not for the captain of the ship. The captain had walked into the cargo bay where Connor had been hiding, and had seen the rage-filled boy scuffling at several crew members, undaunted by their greater size and superior numbers.
The captain said that Connor would stay on the ship as a “swabby”, meaning he would keep the ship tidy and do other undesirable chores around the ship. Connor wasn’t interested in staying on the ship at all, until the captain brought Connor to the captain’s quarters, and revealed to him that, underneath his pilot’s helmet, were extended bony ridges on his forehead.
He was a Klingon/Human hybrid, and understood the all-consuming rage Connor felt. He had been hated and hunted his whole life. He had traveled from star system to star system, trying to find solace. Connor shot back that the only thing that would bring him solace was to make the people who killed his dad pay.
The captain replied that he too had sought vengeance against those who had wronged him, and that all that vengeance did was turn anger into emptiness. Connor lashed out at the captain, but his blow was deflected, and he was quickly thrown to the floor. The captain then responded that he had not found solace in vengeance, but in the way of the noble warrior.
He had drifted from planet to planet, seeking shipping jobs, but using his fighting skills to help those in need. The captain had studied martial arts from all different races and planets, and had become a master in many of them.
Under the captain’s tutelage, Connor’s rage turned to dedication. He learned everything about hand-to-hand combat the captain would teach him, and eventually joined him in helping those in their path. Over the course of many years, Connor became a man, and mastered the martial arts the captain taught him.
The crew members all treated him like a little brother, and each looked after him in their own way. T’pay, the Vulcan helmswoman, saw to Connor’s education as best she could. Micah, the engineer, made sure Connor knew how things worked on the street, and made sure he was fair-handed with a phaser. But most importantly, Connor learned what it meant to be in a family. Connor put his rage behind him, and transformed it into dedication.
One day, as the Siren docked at Mars Colony, Connor saw something he’d never forget. A group of Starfleet officers walked past him in the commons area. They looked so sharp, so competent. Connor learned that they were there for shore leave after they had dealt with space pirates. Connor’s heart thrummed with excitement. This was the life he wanted. He wanted to use his skills to protect others. He applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted.
He immediately focused his studies on Security, and excelled in criminology and interstellar law enforcement based curriculum. He continued to add to his knowledge and physical skills at the academy.
He quickly caught the attention of Starfleet Security, and was approached to be part of a special joint project between Starfleet Security and Starfleet Intelligence known as Project Dark Matter. Project Dark Matter was an elite tactical team that was designed to preemptively strike targets that posed a threat to the security of the Federation. Connor was accepted into the team, and was further trained in hand-to-hand combat, marksmanship, stealth, demolitions, survival skills and other useful abilities.
Just as the team was about to be deemed operational, a security leak was discovered. Connor’s own roommate and squad leader had been feeding intelligence on the team’s existence to outside sources, both inside the Federation and to enemy commanders, compromising the team’s effectiveness. The existence of the team was made known to the public, and had to be shut down. Project Dark Matter quickly became one of the greatest fiascoes in the history of Starfleet Security.
Connor blamed himself. He had trusted the squad leader. They had trained together every day. How had he missed the fact he was a traitor? All the team members were reassigned. Connor was assigned to be the new Security Chief aboard the USS Enterprise, as the previous Security Chief had been killed during the battle with Nero. Connor re-dedicated himself. He wouldn’t fail this time.
OUT OF CHARACTER - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
NAME/ALIAS: Connor HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN RPING: 2-3 years WHERE DID YOU FIND US: RPG Directory DID YOU READ THE RULES: Duh-nuh-nuh Batman! Just kidding, it's pilgrim, you tricky person, you. RP SAMPLE:
Connor straightened his red uniform. It felt different than the body armor he’d worn when he was with Dark Matter. Best not to dwell on that now Connor, he reminded himself. Dark Matter was a thing of the past. He was told in no uncertain terms not to discuss it ever again. He would be forever grateful for what he’d learned during his time there, but never again would those words escape his lips. Dark Matter was dead.
“Well Swabby…” Connor said to himself as he looked in the mirror, mimicking his old mentor, “you don’t look half bad.” Walking out the door, he moved purposefully towards the Security director’s office.
As he walked, he spotted an old Academy buddy hitting on a girl who clearly wasn’t interested. Connor smiled. The guy was half Betazoid, but apparently lacked the empathic gifts of the Betazoid race. Instead, he seemed to think that every female in this galaxy was into him, when in reality, the bored look on the girl’s face conveyed that quite the opposite was true. It was good to know there were some constants in this crazy universe.
Connor walked into the Security director’s office. Connor saluted smartly, and the Director returned the salute. The door closed behind him. About half an hour later, Connor exited the office with a mixed expression of wonder and deep thought.
“Hey there, Payne!” Connor’s old buddy shouted. Had he been out here this whole time?
“Hey there Phil! How’s work at the Spacedock treating you? Any new prospects?” Connor asked, feigning interest for friendship’s sake.
“Oh man, it’s like all the hot engineers in the quadrant gathered together in one place, hopin’ to taste a slice of Phil pie! How’s life in….in….what’re you doing these days?” Phil stammered.
Phil pie? Connor thought before answering. “Uh, actually, I got promoted to Lieutenant Commander. I’m going to be the Security Chief on the Enterprise. I know, right? Crazy.”
“Whoa! The Enterprise! Man, she’s the sweetest ride ever…except for that beautiful creature over there…” Phil said, as he undressed a passing medical officer with his eyes. “I’ll see you…um….yeah.” Phil trailed off as he turned to follow the soon-to-be “prospect”.
Connor smiled to himself. This was really the chance of a lifetime. Finally, he would have a chance to make a difference. Finally, his chance would come. He only hoped he wouldn’t screw the pooch on this next assignment.
Note: If Security Chief is taken, I’m willing to have Connor just be a Security Officer. Thanks!

Ooh, tricky! Yeah, Connor can be a Security officer. I gave him the title of Security Specialist, since he's more than your average redshirt, given his history. And he's a Lieutenant now. If there's any other changes you want made, just let me know!
