Ten years after the fall of Lord Voldemort, Kingsley Shacklebolt and Minerva McGonagall were killed in an exploding café. Nobody believed that it was an accident but nevertheless, their positions needed to be filled. McGonagall's deputy replaced her as headteacher of Hogwarts but Shacklebolt's replacement was a little more controversial.
Dolores Umbridge's son. The wizarding world was outraged by his instatement, convinced that he would follow in his mother's footsteps and attempt to control everything. After just two years in office, he proved to be successful and was soon a popular Minister for Magic. His support was shaken when he introduced five new professors at Hogwarts but like Umbridge, they proved to be among the best the school had ever seen.
Despite their earlier doubts, nobody anticipated the release of his mother from Azkaban. Before it even hit the Daily Prophet, Dolores was back in her seat as Senior Undersecretary and all of the reformed laws of the last thirteen years were withdrawn. Though the Muggle-Born Registration Commission wasn't resurrected, all wizards were required to announce their blood status to the Ministry by law.
Muggle-borns were thrown to the bottom of the pile and practically enslaved. At Hogwarts, they were forbidden from sharing a common room with their housemates and forced into a separate set of dormitories. Umbridge's five professors ensured his laws were upheld within the castle and he had spies and supporters elsewhere to employ his new regime.
Some think that Harry Potter will lead an uprising but any plans for a rebellion have been kept silent. Anyone that dares to stand against Umbridge is punished and silenced. People are starting to lose hope. Will Harry step up as a hero once again or is it somebody else's turn? Who knows. It's just like old times.
