PERSONALITY:
If there's one thing that can be said about Toshiro, it's that he's proud. He is more proud in the sense of his achievments and skills then he is in himself. He can, at times be humble, which was something he was told he should be, especially being a master of certain martial arts. However, when his pride is challenged, he will fight to protect his pride.

He comes from a rather wealthy family, and so he has a lot of power, which he sometimes uses against other people. Because of his training and mastery in many martial art forms, he is strong in both mind and body, and so he doesn't like people calling him weak. He also doesn't appreciate people trying to make him angry and abandon his morals. In the martial arts, it is a rule that you should never go out to try and harm someone, and that it's mostly in defense that you should fight, so Toshiro gets annoyed when people try and make him hurt them for no reason.

In Japan, good manners are everything, to be rude is seen as a disgrace, and those who are rude aren't looked highly upon. Growing up in such a culture means that Toshiro is very polite,and cannot stand people being rude. He thinks it makes a man ugly to be rude and dissrespectful, and he makes this opinion quite clear. If someone is rude to someone, he will often comment on it. The worst he feels someone can be rude, is to direspect or undermine their superior. So in this sense, Toshiro is very loyal to his superiors, and will not allow anyone to direspect them.

Toshiro has a weakness for women, although he can easily handle them and can be rather charming, he does find that at times, they are a distraction. So he views them as both his strength and weakness. Although he's not done that much with a woman out of respect and his own values, he is looking for something deep and meaningful. Toshiro respects women completly, and doesn't understand the pleasure of a one night stand. He treats women fairly, even if he's flirting with them

HISTORY:
Toshiro was brought up in a semi-rich family, so from a young age, he had a rather good upbringing and was able to recieve some of the best child care in his area. However, his parents had worked hard to get where they were, so they didn't spoil Toshiro too much as they knew it wasn't right. Toshiro was the third son to Uriko Nitoko and June Nitoko. Because he was the third son, he wasn't entitled to the family buisness of Robotics and Engineering, known as Keisanki! a very successful company in Japan. This did frustrate him at times, but he soon learnt to accept what couldn't be changed.

As Toshiro grew up, he was taught all about robotics and engineering and absorbed all that he was taught, learning useful skills that would help aid the company. Although he would never own the company, his father hoped he would work there as an employee, so he had to be trained. At school, Toshiro often found the work easy, so his parents moved him to a private boarding school. It was here that he got interessted in martial arts, and immediatly took up Taijitsu; at the time he was six years old, and the perfect age to begin. After a few years, he decided to take up Karate and Kendo, hoping to improve his stamina, flexibility and strength. He also hoped to have a variety of moves he could use if caught in a bad situation. By the time he had finished at the boarding school he had gained a black belt in Taijitsu and Kendo and was a few fights away from earning his black belt in Karate and was called 'Sensei' by many of the other martial art students.

During his later schooling years he worked as much as he was able to at Keisanki! He often found it dull and boring but fought through it, knowing that it was maing his father happy and that he was earning a decent living by doing it and was able to use the money to pay for University. When he wasn't at University studying quantum physics, robotics or engineering he was practicing for his exams inKarate. Eventually the day came when he would fight to earn his black belt in Karate. He invited his family along but they didn't show up and despite being dissapointed he was able to earn his belt.

As soon as he had finished University, he was offered a permanent job at his father's company, which he immeditaly declined. Although he'd been successful in that job, it wasn't what he wanted. So when he heard that Starfleet was recruiting, he immediatly signed up hoping to learn new skills and make a life for his own. He considered going for a science or engineering degree; after all thats what he was good at and he was intellegent and would easily be able to do the course. But something caught his eye: tactical and security. Deciding it would be foolish to miss and oppurtunity like this he signed up and has never regretted his decision.

His years there were rather testing, but he enjoyed himself, he taught martial arts whenever he could to earn some money, and some of the money he earned went towards learning Kung Fu. He had always been facinated with the Chinese martial art, so had eagerly wanted to learn it. Because of the strength and flexibility he had, it didn't take him long to get his first belt. At times, he would get his moves mixed up, but he was still good enough to earn the white belt. During his years in the academy he made many friends and in his third year he signed up to do a few courses in engineeing so that when he was assigned to a ship he'd be able to give assistance if it was needed.

After completing his courses at the academy, he signed up to join the Enterprise. Although that meant leaving behind his training in Kung Fu, he was eager to explore space and encounter new races, he was part of the select few to join the Enterprise. He obeyed every order he was given by Captain Pike and was saddened when he was captured by Nero. Like many others, he was surprised when Kirk took over as Captain after Spock stepped down, but being a person who respects athority he did what he was told. He was unsure as to whether or not Kirk would be able to do it, but after Kirk had proven himself, Toshiro was willing to serve him in any way and was pleased to be given the role of Security and Tactical chief.

An idea had come to him about how to give the crew members of the Enterprise a bit more of an advantage in defending themselves, and when it came to defence Toshiro was quite the expert. He had spent over twelve years training his body and honing his bodies in martial arts. He was already a master in Taijitsu, Kendo and Karate and was working hard to earn the same rank in Kung fu; and he wanted to pass on this knowledge to other to give them the best chance of survival against hostile aliens. Knowing how to defend yourself was important; guns weren't always a guaranteed option and as the person in charge of the safety of both the crew and the ship Toshiro wanted to be certain that everyone would be able to protect themselves from harm.

He had already been in the gym for a while now; He'd already completed his physical morning workout, and now he was working on training his mind. He had been taught that only training one would only make him weak, and that true strength came from the mind. So every day, he did various exercises to sharpen his mind. Today he was simply meditating. However, his room had become too familiar, and he didn't feel challenged by his surroundings, and was bored with being within the same four walls and engineering was running tests in the holodeck so with nowhere else he decided to stay here. Luckily he had come prepared for such an occasion; so lighting a candle he placed it in front of him sat down in front of the flame. When he had first done this exercise, he had found it so difficult, he had been easily distracted and had found the exercise pointless. But as he had grown, he'd improved and was now able to do it easily, however, he had to focus completly, otherwise he'd just get distracted.

It was strange to think that so many people thought meditation was easy. But the truth of the matter was that it was difficult. You had to keep still, your mind had to be clear of all thoughts and you could let nothing from the outside world distract you. When you meditated, your whole body slowed down, and you had to be careful not to cause any harm to your body. It was a very difficult thing indeed, and Toshiro was often insulted by the way people percieved it. "Karappo waga maindo" Closing his eyes, Toshiro began to clear his mind of all thoughts. "Kyuui, yuttarishita, yasuraka" He was glad that he was allowed time to train each day, and being able to meditate before work was a blessing. It would help him keep calmer throughout the day. He loved his job, it was far better then the one he'd have had back in Japan. Here, he was of some use, and he was grateful to the academy and to Captain Pike for giving him his job. Of course, Captain Pike was no longer the Captain of the Enterprise, and the young James T. Kirk had replaced him. At first Toshiro had doubted the young boy, but he had proved himself, and Toshiro was now loyal to him. Nothing would change that, unless of course, Kirk betrayed them all. But he doubted that would happen. Kirk was a good man, and Toshiro was proud to be a part of his team.

As he began to enter deeper into his meditation, Toshiro heard the doors of the gym room open and he turned his head to see who it was. Word had gone around about his idea, he had no idea how but it had and he was curious to see if the newcomer was just here for the gym or here for him. Then again it could have been someone asking for his advice on something to do with his area of expertise. The possibilities were endless and Toshiro wasn't foolish enough to jump to conclusions or assume why the person was here; after all as the saying went 'don't assume or you will make an ass out of you and me'. "Can I help?"
