PERSONALITY:
Eilidh, how to describe Eilidh? She's a difficult individual to get your head around, she lives in a world of possibilities, there isn't a no in her mind, and there isn't an option that she can't make something happen. She keeps herself to herself tending to analyse complicated problems in her own head and figure them out she seeks a way of finding some way to categorise the world around her and make sense out of the chaos but so far she's struggled its something she is learning to cope with at the moment. While she is an incredibly intelligent young woman she can't seem to vocalise it and subsequently doesn't get noticed very much, however when at the academy her written work and examinations have proven her more than exceptional ability which came as quite the present surprise to her tutors and teachers who to be honest hadn't really expected much from the quite bright red head in the corner who looked more scared to be there than anything else. She has an intense awkwardness in trying to explain her thoughts in person and a certain grace when putting them in to writing. While she appears pretty 'dreamy' to other people and off in a universe of her own she's thinking and mulling things over in her head, however if a problem pips her interest she will devote all the time and energy in the world to solving it, she can't walk away from not knowing the answer, she has to know the answer that's just the way it is. A perfectionist she doesn't give herself credit for he work or her abilities and tends to drive herself too hard and expect far too much of herself.
Still she is young and idealistic which isn't always the advantage and yet it means she can be overly sensitive about things, though while she is idealistic about some things when it comes to people on a personal level she is very mistrusting. Just as she struggles to vocalise her thoughts Eilidh isn't a social person and there is a deep awkwardness in social aspects of her life and yet she makes herself uncomfortable by pushing herself in to those situations because she would rather be ignored in a room of people than on her own. The first does tend to happen not because she is disliked but because she is quiet and people tend not to notice that she is there, but as they say its the quiet ones you should be most concerned about and her quietness has attracted concerns from academic staff when at the academy about her ability to operate as part of a group on a starship but it isn't enough to bar her due to her academic record.
As complicated as she is Eilidh is hard to get to know well, but for those who do, she is a genuinely warm and caring person and has a habit of capturing soft spots in peoples hearts. Eilidh deeply cares for her friends and is usually the first to step in when someone is in trouble or needs something, she's always mindful about her friends feelings and tries her best to get by through her life without hurting anyone. It makes her highly sensitive to conflict which isn't something that she can deal with very well and she tends to internalise stress during conflicting periods which normally makes herself run down and sick. However she is a natural at supporting people and always stands by her friends giving them support so just as well she is highly devoted and protective of her friends and shows her care for them through actions rather than words.
Not a lot of people get to see her sensitive side, she holds a deep love of nature and the world around her and loves to lie on her back in the middle of nowhere and watch the stars like she did as a child not like that's happening much now. Mind you watching out the window is just as satisfying for her! Nature reminds her of her home, and the area of Scotland that she grew up in, Caledonia will always be her home no matter how far away from it she is and in her mind it is one of the most beautiful places in the universe but there's always been something beautiful about the stars calling her away from home.
HISTORY:
Bornin Glasgow, Scotland, Eilidh was named after her mother Helen her name the Scottish Gaelic translation of the meaning 'shining ray' which is very adapt considering her bright red hair (which is natural by the way) and fair skin. The youngest of three children she has two older twin brothers Jay and Charlie who have somewhat gone their own way in life. Jay an artist and her other brother Charlie a wanna be musician in a band that isn't going anywhere fast. Her family relocated soon after her birth to one of the northern islands of Scotland where her father was tasked with creating a heritage centre to celebrate the history of the northern isles of Scotland which had been for hundreds of years a huge tourist attraction. Her parents decided to raise their children on the Isle of Islay which lies off the north west cost of Scotland and is one of the centres of the Whisky manufacturing of which her father has designed several buildings for different distilleries on the island and on surrounding islands as well as the mainlands during his life. Growing up in such a small and remote place set her imagination alight and there was nothing she liked more as a child than going birdwatching with her mother who was an avid animal lover and their house and garden was always full of animals. They had three cats creatively named fluffy, snowball (yes in honour of The Simpsons) and scratcher as well as two springer pups that they grew up with called Joey and Jakob...and lets not start on the plethora of small animals that have passed through the house in the years she lived there.
Her intelligence was recognised at an early age at the small island school that she attested and did exceptionally well at, she liked school as a child, her school had only half a dozen pupils in it and one teacher. The high school on the neighbouring island held only two hundred students and too was very small compared to many on the mainland. High school was a logistical nightmare for many families on the island, while the island isn't that cold due to the effect of the gulf stream the winter windstorms that came in off the Atlantic frequently cancelled all ferry travel to the neighbouring island and instead of snow days they had wind days where school was shut due to the unsafe travelling conditions. It was during her high school years Eilidh fell in love with the sky, there was never much to do on the island, so they used to sit out on summer nights in the unlight polluted middle of nowhere island that they lived on looking up at the stars which shone so brightly from where they were. They were calling out to her and she was going to follow them, unfortunately something got in the way. She fell in love.
At sixteen she met William Erskin, he was hansom and funny, not to mention musically talented and she was pretty sure that he was out of her league. She never understood why she fell for him so hard, she just did and he felt just as strongly back. The two of them had been dating for a year when William revealed he was leaving the island for the big city of Glasgow to attend university to study Medicine and asked her to come with her, giving up the idea of enlisting in Star Fleet to get up there in to the stars she followed him and it might have been the biggest mistake of her life. It didn't take long before the relationship went sour and yet their slow decline was invisible to her eyes, slowly over time the one sided arguments where would yell at her turned in to a smack every now and then to every day to the point where it finally suck in what was going on. The violent relationship drove her to the edge and it was late one night where she decided that she had enough of his volatile attitude and packed her bags swiftly one night, took what she needed and left. Getting the train out to shuttle port she enlisted in Star Fleet like she had wanted to in the first place and got on the first shuttle that she could get to the Academy.
Since arriving at the Academy she hadn't exactly made a ton of friends, but its safe, she loves the place, she loves the fact that she is learning and getting closer to her dream. Eilidh had always wanted to go out to the stars, she always wanted to go to space it still calls to her, shes just doing it a bit later than she planned. She finally got to, she remembers the first night she spent on a starship, she didn't sleep, she sat there the entire night watching the stars and space go past. She's never been this happy in her life, finally she feels like she'd found a place called home.
OUT OF CHARACTER - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
NAME/ALIAS: Sammie HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN RPING: Too damned long. I lost count after five years WHERE DID YOU FIND US: Addyverty DID YOU READ THE RULES: Of course not - "huzzah! batman's mustache pleases me, you pilgrim!" FACE CLAIM: Hayley Williams RP SAMPLE:
Sometimes she couldn't believe that she had ended up here, there were times she lay in bed looking at the ceiling of he quarters wondering how the hell she had managed to make her way on to a Starship. She had always wanted to be here, ever since she was a kid, she remembered telling her 'daddy' that she wanted to go in to space and she remembered exactly what he said; 'go show the world your thunder.' She hadn't exactly done that but she was well on her way to her goal. Getting to live her life in space. An ordinary life was never something she had wanted, it wasn't what her soul had told her to do and it was just that which made her stand out from the crowd despite her quiet demeanour. People had always thought she was a quiet pretty face but ending up here meant someone had recognised her mind and that was all the reward she had needed for the hard work she had put in at the Academy.
Mind you she didn't have time to sit around and think about how lucky she was to be here, she had better get on with her job which was...well fixing things and there was always something that needed fixing on this ship. For a Starship that was so advanced she couldn't help but think things broke a lot, mind you it wasn't as if this was a small ship! Today she was tasked with fixing something that had gone wrong in a corridor, of course it was meaningless the ship wouldn't fall apart without it happening but she couldn't help but resent the fact she got the crap jobs. Of course the diagnostic was taking forever, trying to work out what had gone wrong was ninety percent of the battle to be honest. It was taking far longer than it should and she just knew any minute she was going to get a 'why the hell isn't it fixed already.' Then again people tended to forget about her, it meant she didn't have people on her back all of the time and that wasn't a bad thing.
It took a while, but the job was done, a faulty circuit that was it of course it took around thirty seconds to fix and didn't draw on much engineering skills but it fell within her job range. Job done it meant she could get on with something a bit more worth while, sure she was smart as hell and capable of so much more than meaningless repair tasks. Truth was her quietness held her back and she would be at least a rank above where she was now if she would just get herself noticed a bit more often, still she couldn't complain right? She was aboard a Starship, she was a member of Starfleet...how many people got to do that in their life's? Very few indeed.
