PERSONALITY:
It's hard to describe Jim's personality as he is rather complex. At first glance he is a rogue, charming miscreant with a lot of potential but no discipline. He likes women, a lot, and has a nasty habit of skirt chasing and womanizing. Although this habit tends to get him into some sticky situations, especially when the girl he's after has a not so friendly beau, over all he is smooth, and charming enough to get himself out of trouble.
Jim has a mouth on him, another aspect of his personality that gets him into trouble. He has a disregard for authority, and purposely ignores most accepted social boundaries. He does fight a lot due to his hot tempered nature, more so being the antagonist than the one being attacked. He enjoys seeing how far he can push people before they snap. You could call it a past time of his.
He also has a need to win, at any cost. This often lends itself to him cheating, bending the rules, or taking the most seemingly insane approach to a situation. This kamikaze attitude is both a great strength to him, and a weakness. For all the good it does, all the risks he takes and the success he makes...he also suffers the consequences at times as well.
When he sobers up and takes something seriously, he is 110% devoted. He will do whatever it takes to complete the mission at hand (included the aforementioned cheating) and is very loyal to those he trusts, and feels responsible for. As far as his crew goes, obviously, he enjoys his rank, and giving orders, but he (aside from a few weak moments) isn't the type to abuse his own power. He took on the responsibility with great conviction (again, at times this seems to fade to the background,) and is quickly adapting to his role as captain.
Through it all, Jim has a good sense of humor, and love for life and all its...sensations. He is a thrill seeker, and loves adventure. The idea of the unknown is fascinating to him, and he knows he has the right crew to explore it with.
HISTORY:
James T. Kirk was born on Medical Shuttle 37 of the USS Kelvin, to Winona Kirk and George Kirk in 2233. He was named after his mother's father, James, and his father's father, Tiberius. Due to extenuating circumstances, he lost his father within a minute after his birth.
Kirk was raised in Iowa by his mother and step father. Even at his young age, Kirk had the rebellious streak. He stole cars, and god knows what else as a young boy, and when he was older, was no stranger to bar fights.
By 2255, Kirk was an rebel without a cause, finding himself on the wrong side of the law quite often. While enjoying one too many a drink at the bar near the Riverside Shipyard, Kirk met and flirted with Starfleet cade Uhura. Despite his enibriated state, he was able to impress the seeming unimpressable Uhura by knowing about the study of xenolinguistics. Soon after, three of Uhura's fellow cadets began a bar fight with Kirk. Being out numbered (and drunk) he was beaten, although no worse for the wear ego wise, until Captain Christopher Pike broke off the fight.
Pike, who knew Kirk's father, challenged him to do something with his life, and live up to his true potential. The Captain tried to persuade young Kirk into joining Starfleet, believing that he could 'do more with himself than get into bar fights and break all the laws in the state of Iowa'. Not impressed, Kirk laughed it off, but ultimately Pike convinced him to enlist.
On the trip to the Academy where he would train for three years, Kirk met and befriended Leonard McCoy, who would later prove to be a good friend, and have questionable methods of helping Kirk break the rules.
Kirk attended Starfleet Academy, doing very well (despite all the female distractions) although he did fail the Kobayashi Maru test twice but decided to take it a third time, managing to cheat his way into a victory. Kirk argued against the claims that he cheated, because of the programming that made it a no-win scenario. Spock, who programmed the test, was angered by Kirk's disregard for the rules and regulations, having him brought before the academic council.
During the council a distress call was intercepted and the cadets were sent off to respond. Due to his cheating, Kirk was grounded, but with help from McCoy he was brought on board as a patient, ending up on the enterprise along with Spock, and Uhura.
While being a 'stowaway' Kirk figured out that they were heading into a trap, however the command would not listen. Eventually with the help of Uhura, Captain Pike took action, and found that Kirk had been right. Leaving the ship, Pike left Spock in charge and appointed Kirk first mate to the Enterprise.
Kirk along with two fellow cadets, including Sulu, dived into the atmosphere of Vulcan, attempting to disable the doomsday device that was intended to destroy the entire planet. However they were unsuccessful in doing so.
Afterwords, Kirk questioned Spock's command, and was very insubordinate. After he fought the guards sent to escort him off the bridge, Spock knocked him unconscious and exiled him to an icy planet (Delta Vega) via an escape pod. When he came to, he found himself alone, and very cold. He then encountered a nasty creature which chased him to his final refuge, a lone cave in the snow. It was here that to his disbelief he met Spock Prime, the much older, and much friendlier alternate version of the pointy eared bastard back on the Enterprise.
Finding his explanations futile, Spock Prime mind-melded with Kirk, which eventually convinced him to agree to the plan offered. One unfavorable side-effect was the transfer of emotion and grief that Spock himself was immune to.
Traveling to the nearby Starfleet outpost with Spock Prime, he and Kirk arrived and met Scotty aka Montgomery Scott. Of course Spock Prime recognized him, and helped him with subtle nudges Spock helped Scotty come to find that beam transport was far wider a spectrum than he had ever imagined. Eventually he was able to beam himself and Kirk back aboard the Enterprise.
Kirk now having a renewed purpose, set out to gain command of the Enterprise so that he could do what had to be done, do what Spock would not. After a lot of antagonizing, Kirk finally got a hostile, and slightly violent emotional reaction from Spock, causing him to step down, and leaving Kirk in command of the ship.
In pursuit of Nero and the Narada, Kirk began to formulate his plan, with the help of the advice given to him from Spock Prime. When they caught up, both Kirk and Spock beamed aboard Nero's vessel, getting into a gun fight, in which they were victorious. Splitting up from there, Kirk went to find Captain Pike, while Spock went to divert Nero from Earth.
On his way, Kirk ran into Nero, and they fought, however it was short lived as Nero ran off when Spock sucessfully diverted his attack. Kirk was left to fight Ayel, a task which was nearly the end of him, but he came out victorious, killing the other man.
Finding Pike, Kirk beamed himself and the Captain onto the Enterprise, while Spock simultaneously caused the Nerada to expload by collision. In the final moments, and against Spock's advice, Kirk offered Nero and his crew a chance at life by beaming them aboard the Enterprise. Nero declined and was sucked into the black hole created by the red matter he had on board.
Successful, the entire crew returned to Earth where Kirk was appointed the official Captain of the Enterprise by Admiral Richard Barnett. Spock requested to be his first officer, to which Kirk gladly agreed.
Now there was one last task at hand. To explore space, the final frontier.OUT OF CHARACTER

Jim Kirk was really going to have to learn to be more careful, or rather less stupid. Who you asked probably would depend which answer you got. During his off hours he had decided to run through a few simulations in the holodeck. Not twenty minutes in he was already bored, and got the novel idea to turn off the safety protocols. Three hours, and four sword fights later, here he was walking briskly down the corridors, a hand gripping his bleeding arm tightly. Yeah, being stabbed had hurt, but it wasn't like he wasn't used to pain. Really he didn't even feel it too much at first, the blade went through, and out again, and he saw a lot of blood, but the pain was only now starting to really set in.
He made a sharp turn towards sickbay, the doors swishing open, leading him into a relatively empty room. He immediately turned to McCoy's normal station, which was empty. Where the hell was bones? Groaning, he winced as he pressed too hard on the wound, turning around to go check McCoy's office, hoping he might be in there. Instead, his eyes fell on a particularly stunning woman who must've been a nurse or something. He couldn't quite place it, but she looked oddly familiar. Oh well, she'd just have to do.
Putting on his most charming grin, Jim sauntered over to her, careful to hide how much his injury was hurting. As he approached he looked her over, none to subtly, and resisted a whistle. She was...stunning. How had he not met her until now? Hauling himself up onto one of the exam tables, his legs hanging off of it, Jim brought his gaze up to her eyes, and nodded in greeting. "Got a moment to fix up your poor injured captain?" he asked with a light chuckle, moving his hand to reveal the wound. Jim winced despite himself as the air hit it, and looked to her hopefully. Even if her bedside manner wasn't any better than Bones' she'd be a hell of a lot nicer to look at during the process.
