PERSONAL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
APPEARANCE: Reese is a youthful man who stands at 6 ft even. He likes to work out, but he also likes to look lean, not too skinny, but not overly muscular either. He does this for a few reasons. One, it looks more attractive and it makes him more approachable and two, he likes to trick people into thinking that he's much weaker because of his build. He has dark features which include his brown hair and eyes. When it comes to his hair, he likes to keep it short, but there are times when he's known to let it grow a little bit. If that's the case, it usually gets tied up and out of the way. He hates being told he doesn't look like captain material when his hair is long.
As far as what he wears, he too likes to keep it simple. When he's on duty, he wears the standard Federation uniforms presented, but when he's off duty, it's anything goes. He doesn't really have a style, but he does like to keep things neat. He can't be seen wearing wrinkled shirts or pants. No, everything has to be nice and pristine for him. He has to look as impeccable as can be at all times, even when it's his down time. To him, he's got an image to protect, whatever that means. He's not really into wearing suits, however, and would much rather keep it simple: a nice shirt and slacks. That's how he rolls.
PERSONALITY: At first glance, Reese looks like a very approachable guy. He's got a charming smile and easy-going demeanor about him. He doesn't really look intimidating because of his seemingly lean physique. Of course, beneath the surface is a completely different person. The first thing people say about him is his attitude. He's very arrogant. He doesn't take kindly to those he finds inferior and has no problem letting anyone know how he feels about people. If it wasn't for his natural born leadership skills and confidence, he wouldn't have been in command of his own ship. He likes boasting to anyone that will listen about his many accomplishments at such a young age. Truly, to him, the story never gets old.
He's also very restless, impulsive and impatient. Though at times, these are seemingly good qualities to have in a captain, Reese likes to take it to the extreme. He's got a need for speed and will do something ten times faster than the next guy, just to prove that it can be done. He's very competitive and combative that way. He just has to be the best at everything and if he isn't, then he will go out of his way to make sure that he is. It makes him a rather unbearable person to be around honestly. The funny thing is he has no idea that people usually have a negative opinion of him. He's so into himself that he's rather delirious that way.
Reese, naturally, is very stubborn and doesn't like being told that he's wrong. If someone dares correct him, either he insults or humiliates them or just downright ignores it. He's almost like a child that way. People really do become amazed when they realized that he's actually a rather intelligent, well-spoken, talented and charismatic individual. It's almost as though he's two different people. He's a very complex guy and rather hard to read and get to know once you've approached him. Everything is either always replied sarcastically or nonchalantly. He has this air of "I'm good, I don't care what you say, leave me alone" that would mostly turn people away from him, yet he's got the skill to know how to keep 'em coming.
That's one of the things about Reese that makes him complex. One side of him is the brooding, haunting, arrogant man and the other side is a rather charming, humorous guy. He can be both at the same time, leaving many people rather confused. He loves being a leader and taking charge, even when he isn't really supposed to do so. He's not a dreamer, though likes to think big. He's more of an action-oriented guy and isn't one to stand on the sidelines while everyone else is having fun. That's not how he works. Reese doesn't fit into the traditional captain role, but regardless of his many, many, many faults, he is a damn good one and he will be sure to remind you of it anytime.
HISTORY: Life on Earth in the distant future was always something of a fantasy for a lot of people. No one ever really expected a lot of the advancements in technology and science to come as far as it eventually would, but it did and it's something of a miracle. One of the greatest innovators of this new technology was an engineer by the name of Lawrence Reese. At the time of his greatest achievement, he was seen as nothing more than an overrated fanatic, but as time wore on, his influence among his peers grew steadily. Reese is generally credited with creating one of the first known spaceships circa 2053, the Intrepid. Though it never made it off of Earth, the foundation was built and his reputation was set in stone.
Reese and his many descendent's would continue to carry on in this tradition of excellence. Fifty years later, his grandson, Kevin Reese, would be an instrumental partner in the forming of the Federation. Kevin's son, Peter, followed in his great-grandfather's steps and built his own spaceship and commanded it. It wasn't the first to enter the realms of space but it was one of the first to come to a tragic end. It collided with an unidentified ship. There weren't any survivors. This accident prompted Peter's son, David to prompt for better regulations. He founded the United Board of Space Regulations. By the time of David's death, he was already a well-respected politician.
The year was 2230 and a lot had changed. Although early on the Reese name held a lot of clout, they had fallen out of favor in the 200 years or so after Lawrence Reese's first spaceship. Bruce Reese was nothing more than a helmsman on a small cargo ship when he met Lori Atoni. Lori and Bruce quickly fell in love and were married in what New York City. Only three years later was their only son, Andrew, born. Even at an early age was Andrew a force of nature. He was nothing like his father and took after his mother in a lot of ways. She was a very vain woman who wanted what she wanted when she wanted it. Andrew picked this up fairly quick. When the Reese's talked about having other children, Andrew balked at the idea. The thought of sharing his parents with another was not going to work.
However, Alita, was born just five years later, when Andrew was seven years old. Though he was initially resistant to her, he eventually became the over-protected big brother and welcomed her. He had shown an interest in being the leader of his own ship very early on, when his father managed to buy him his own mini-pod. He was a natural on it and by the time he entered his school years, he was well on his way to being the best. He was already proving himself to be a rather arrogant student, oftentimes telling his own teachers that they were wrong if they made some sort of mistake. This sort of behavior was pushed off as nothing more than a phase, but it really wasn't and was only the sign of something to come later on.
Andrew isolated himself from the rest of his peers. He didn't have time for childish fantasies. He was already thinking of what he wanted to do as an adult. The only thing he cared about was commanding his own ship. He couldn't wait to go to Starfleet to not only restore his family name, but also prove to himself that he could do it. He was his biggest critic, and although his father supported him, he didn't think his son was as good as he could be. That was a great frustration to Andrew, but it was also his biggest motivation. He wasted no time in getting his ass into gear. He studied extra hard, got himself into shape and when it came time for him to enter Starfleet, he knew he was ready.
It didn't take him long enough to make a name for himself. He was slowly gaining the attention of a lot of his superiors, as well as angering his peers. He was a know-it-all who made it his life's goal to annoy everyone else and boast about how good he was. His biggest threat, as well as rival was none other than James Kirk. The two didn't get along from the get go and Andrew always found himself trying to one-up Kirk at any chance. When it came to tests, missions, and even the Kobayashi Maru, Kirk proved the better man. Again, this didn't sit well with Andrew and before long he found himself always playing second fiddle to Kirk. He graduated at the top of his class, though not without a fair deal of controversy. At the commencement ceremony, Andrew had made some remarks geared towards his fellow students as well as his teachers that angered a lot of people.
Of course, Andrew didn't really care who he offended and regardless of his elitist attitude, no one could deny that he wasn't a good leader. In fact, it was probably the positive thing about Andrew that every appeared to agree upon. It was because of this that he was finally granted his own ship, one that was to explore and maintain peace between waring planets. They called it the Intrepid after Andrew's relative, Lawrence Reese. Although he was barely out of his twenties, he proved himself invaluable to Starfleet and the Federation.
The USS Intrepid took off on Andrew's 23rd birthday and its mission was for four years. He commanded well over 100 people. When he found out that his rival, Kirk, had been given his own spaceship, Andrew was none too pleased. He made it a point to go to planets or colonies that the Enterprise was destined to go, or he'd go out of his way to try and make more of an impact before Kirk got there. Andrew finally met his match in a Gorn named Scarn. The two squared off for several hours, but the Intrepid was no match for the Cataclysm and was subsequently destroyed. Nearly all crew members aboard were killed. Only a handful survived, Andrew included.
It's something that has weighed heavily on him though he doesn't want to talk about it. He and the other survivors were picked up by none other than the Enterprise, and although his other crew members eventually left the ship, Andrew decided, for the time being, to stay aboard, much to the annoyance of nearly everyone else. The Federation hadn't the heart to take away Andrew's rank, though he is on a probation period in which he cannot command a ship for at least a year.
OUT OF CHARACTER - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
NAME/ALIAS: Jasmine HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN RPING: Since 2005 WHERE DID YOU FIND US: Proboards Support DID YOU READ THE RULES: yes; pilgrim RP SAMPLE: In all honesty, she was in a daze. She didn't even know how she got here or why she was here, but she was suddenly surprised to know that she was in the main engineering deck. Okay, that wasn't really true. She knew why she was there and what she was trying to get out of it, but she wouldn't really admit it to herself, would she? Iona was so clueless sometimes when it came to the obvious. She shouldn't have been there and was for certain that it would only serve to get her into some kind of trouble...as usual. If she didn't let up, she'd be getting herself kicked off the Enterprise.
She was painfully bored and whenever she got bored, she always ended up doing something risky and reckless. What better person to help her achieve that than her "favorite" engineer, Embry? Okay, most of the time he was nothing more than an unsuspecting victim in a lot of her pranks, but he made her laugh and was one of the few people aboard the ship that made it all worth it. He had a good sense of humor about him, though after watching him "work", she did wonder how he was able to get a prime position on the Enterprise. Whatever the reason, she at least wanted to go down and see him for a bit, while they were still on shore leave.
She had been allowed into the engineering room on several occasions before. In fact, most of the people who worked there were some of the nicest ones she had encountered. No one really seemed to have a problem anytime she visited and she was always eager to help out whenever she could. Mostly, she'd just sit back and watch them do whatever they did. It was exciting and made her regret not taking more interest in such things while at Starfleet. No, she wanted to be a teacher. She wanted to educate people and help them. What she was doing right now was not fun at all, she had to admit.
She entered the engineering deck to look for Embry. A few of the other crewmen and women simply smiled at her or paid her no attention. She whistled to herself, clearly interested in what was going on, even if...nothing was going on. She just liked knowing that something was still being done around here. Iona folded her arms as she continued to walk further into the area. She didn't see Embry anywhere and started to frown. Maybe he had gone to the surface as well, or maybe he was somewhere, talking to someone, doing something he shouldn't have been doing. She laughed out loud. The thought of Embry with another woman in his arms was enough to invoke a hilarious sight. He just wasn't the type.
She finally reserved herself to the fact that he probably wasn't down here and decided to go leave. She'd have to cause trouble on her own it looked. Iona asked one of the red shirts closest to her, "Where's Embry at?" The guy looked at her and jerked his head in the opposite direction, though couldn't hide his annoyance. She nodded her head in appreciation and turned around, heading to another location further down. Finally, she saw what looked like a figure on his knees and she tapped him on the shoulder and asked, "Is that you Em?" She sure hoped it was. She didn't want to be embarrassed yet again.
