APPEARANCE: Spock stands at approximately 6'1” and weighs 185 pounds. His black hair is kept in a neat bowl-cut, as is common among the Vulcan people, and his eyes are the large, brown eyes of his human mother. His people do resemble humans in some way or another, Spock more so than others due to his half-human heritage. Due to his father's side, however, he does have the pointed ears, slanted eyebrows, and complexion of a Vulcan. His face is usually stoic and emotionless, lips drawn and eyes cold. When one manages to make Spock smile, a rarer side of him shows.
PERSONALITY: Having been raised on the planet Vulcan, Spock grew up around plenty of other, intellectually developed characters. He was always at the top of his class, having achieved high marks all of his life, and his yearning for knowledge is a natural part of his personality. Being one of the most intelligent life forms upon the Enterprise, Spock enjoys taking charge of the current situation. He is usually the one that most Cadets come to with questions, and he is always more than happy to answer them. But his know-it-all attitude has also attracted quite a few enemies as well.
Vulcans pursue a life free of emotion. Emotion only causes pain and suffering, and toys with the brain. As a Vulcan, Spock was encouraged to push towards this stoic life. Unlike most Vulcans, however, Spock felt conflicted most of his childhood. Should he do what his father requested of him, purging himself of all emotion, or follow in his mother's footsteps and be open to his passions? When the time came to make his decision, Spock turned away from his father, leaving Vulcan behind and joining the Starfleet academy. His relationship with his father had never been a good one, but now it was even worse. Spock still has quite a bit of trouble expressing himself and dealing with his emotions, which can be a major downfall of his.
Only a select few have seen the true side of Spock – the caring, emotional side. He has trouble opening up to others, and it takes time to develop a friendship with him. Once you get to know him, you'll realize that Spock will give his life for those he cares about. He isn't selfish in the least. And he's not really the person he seems to be.
HISTORY: Spock was born on the planet Vulcan twenty-six years ago, to a Vulcan father and a human woman. Because of his parenting, Spock was always an outcast among Vulcan society – a conflicted individual. He was often picked on by his peers, leaving him with a difficult time of adolescence. After he had completed his Vulcan training, Spock applied for a position at the Starfleet academy, as well as a place at the Vulcan Science Academy. He also considered completing his training to purge all emotion, but later he discarded that idea. Spock was admitted into the Vulcan Science Academy, but was forced to turn the opportunity down due to a reference to his “disadvantage”.
Spock went on to join the Starfleet Academy, graduating by age twenty-two. Four years later, he became a Commander and instructor at the academy. While instructing at the academy, Spock formed a romantic relationship with Nyota Uhura, a Lieutenant specializing in linguistics; he served as her instructor.
Spock met a Cadet named James Kirk under unusual circumstances. Kirk had somehow managed to successfully complete the Kobayashi Maru test, which had been programmed by Spock to be unbeatable. Thinking that Kirk had cheated, Spock confronted him at a hearing of the academy board, and the two immediately formed a rivalry.
When the academy received a distress call from Vulcan, Spock and the others immediately boarded the USS Enterprise. Spock took up the position of First Officer, serving under Captain Christopher Pike. The crew o the Enterprise quickly discovered that Vulcan was under attack by the Romulans, who were plotting to destroy the planet. Spock, thinking to protect Vulcan's culture, beamed onto the planet's surface, attempting to rescue the elders, including his mother and father. While he was able to rescue his father and a few of the elders, Spock's mother was killed during the destruction of the planet. He struggled with the death of his mother, as well as the loss of his home-planet, and he found comfort in Uhura.
Soon afterwards, Kirk clashed with Spock, and Spock dumped the young man on a foreign planet, abandoning him; however, Kirk and a man called “Scotty” managed to beam aboard the ship. Kirk again confronted Spock, this time making a comment about Spock's mother, and Spock responded by attacking him, and nearly killing him. Because he had revealed his emotions, Spock stepped down, and James T. Kirk became the new captain of the Enterprise.
When the time came to confront the Romulans, Spock (along with Kirk) volunteered to carry out the plan. Before beaming aboard Nero's ship, Spock and Uhura made their relationship known by kissing publicly.
Kirk and Spock were able to locate the captured Captain Pike, and Spock was able to destroy the drill that threated planet Earth. During the ordeal, James Kirk and Spock had developed a strong friendship, ending their rivalry. Spock later became Kirk's First Officer – the only candidate, and the only man that Kirk trusted to do the job well.
