Scotty was bracing himself for what he might see when he entered the bridge. It was the first time anyone had been allowed in since the explosion, since the smoke and all the other dangerous fumes had been cleared out (or so they hoped), and he had horrible visions of all the things that could have been destroyed. He was well equipped with a belt full of various diagnostic tools, as well as a whole case of them he carried at his side, and if Lt. Waters had head him tell her to come with him, he would probably soon be followed by backup, too. Stepping onto the bridge, he had the impulse to close his eyes so he wouldn't have to see the damage Embry Austin had done to his beautiful ship. He had to open them, though, repairs were pretty hard with your eyes closed, so he did so, grimacing as he did.
"Oh, lassie, look what they've done t'you." he lamented, approaching the epicenter of the explosion at the communications station. He sighed, running a hand over the jagged edge of the once smooth console. "Embry, Embry, Embry..." he scolded, making a 'tsk' noise under his breath. How in the world could one man have done this much damage to a system that was relatively foolproof? As long as you didn't go around cutting random wires or lighting things on fire, the liquid circuits were pretty safe. He couldn't imagine what sort of horrible thing the young engineer had done to bring all of this about.
Kneeling beside the console, he peered into the burnt insides, noting that the emergency sealant had done its job incredibly well. Actually, he wondered if he'd ever be able to get it all out to repair the circuits. The basic idea was to keep the liquid from spilling out everywhere, and it had done that, but it wasn't going to be easy to clean. He sighed lengthily, and reached for a cloth in his tool box, using it to wipe away some of the virtual puddle of sealant that had spread on the console. This was a mess...a big one, and as he glanced around at it, he couldn't help thinking (with some despondence) that they probably wouldn't be able to fix it for at least a week.
He stood up, looking around the room, surveying the damage, and that was when he caught sight of a familiar tool, half underneath an overturned chair. He bent over and picked it up, examining it. It was a circuit injector, probably from Embry's assortment of tools, and Scotty understood why he would have used it. Sometimes, if a circuit was acting up, you could just inject it with a modulating buffer, which would basically reboot it. It made sense. It was empty enough that Scotty couldn't determine right away what it had contained, but he assumed it would be one of the standard buffers they used in engineering. He tapped the scorched tool against the palm of his hand thoughtfully. What had happened here?

Jamie glared agrilly at her desk, after the past few days everything was in a mess. Her equipment bag was somewhere and now she needed to go help the bridge with her ‘boss’. Her gaze moved around the room, her bed, her open messy closet, her books, but still she couldn’t find her black shoulder bag. She could have sworn she’d sat it on her desk the night before, and she knew it couldn’t have moved by itself. Especially because her try at AI had been off for the past few days. She was do busy to have to worry about it hating her, and even if it had been on it couldn’t have moved her bag unless it could form arms, which she highly doubted.
If I don’t find it I can run down to the Engineering deck and grab a few things there, but I need to find my set…, She thought as Jamie walked to her closet and grabbed her uniform. She had to leave soon, to get to where she can help Scotty or Lt. Commander Montgomery Scott for formal occasions. Quickly, Jamie slipped into her uniform. If it hadn’t been for one of the other engineers, Embry Austin, then they would probably be heading on to a mission by now. Though no, they had another week or so until they where to be able to leave. Grabbing her comm, she glanced around her room once again before turning and started to head out the door when her foot got caught in a strap.
Jamie barely kept herself from face planting in the floor, glancing down, she sighed. Her bag had been on the floor by her bed the whole time. Rolling her eyes, Jamie reached down and picked it up, slipping her comm and her other random things before she finally headed out of the door.
It took only a few minutes for her to reach the bridge, she’d known that the explosion had been bad. But when she finally entered the bridge she gasped. Her wide eyed gaze drifted from one station to another. She noticed that her ‘boss’ was already here. Jamie headed towards him, eyeing the circuit injector in his hands. It was scortched like everything else in the area, so he wasn’t using it now at least. And one person did this? Do you think that, She pointed to the ciruit injector in his hands before going on. had anything to do with it? Or what? She asked, being the head engineer chief he must have some idea. For a second she thought of going and asking Lt. Austin what he did, but she’d heard he was in the sickbay for injuries, so that was a no.
So, sir, where do we start first? I brought my bag of tools. Do you think we’ll need anything else? Jamie asked as she once again turned her gaze to the destruction of the bridge around them, but mainly what looked to be the hardest was going to be getting the emergency sealant out of practically everything. Well…this is gonna be fun, right? she muttered under her breath. Grimancing she turned back to Scotty, knowing that this was going to be real eventful week.

Scotty was about to try to get Jamie on the comm when she came in, and he didn't say anything about how long it had taken her to get there. Honestly, he was just glad she showed up at all. He knew there was probably some resentment arising amongst the ranks of the younger engineers for the extra work they were going to have to do; the only people who were probably working as much overtime were probably the medical staff. Well, the medical staff only had a handful of patients from this incident. Scotty and his crew only had one patient, the Enterprise, but honestly, this was going to take a lot longer than patching up Embry Austin's ribs.
"Aye, one person...more or less." Scotty confirmed, nodding. There was nothing that the ship would do on its own to cause this. Maybe there had been a bogus alarm, something Embry or whoever summoned him thought they needed to fix, but the ship didn't just explode on its own. Embry had to have done something, and as Scotty handled the circuit injector contemplatively, he tried to think of what it had been. "I wonder..." he mused, looking it over. "Well, you can start by tryin' t'get some of that bloody sealant off of that console...We cannae start on anythin' until we can see it. I'll take a look at this and see if I can't find out what caused this mess...aside from Lieutenant Austin, that is."
He rummaged around in his tool box for a moment before he found what he was looking for - a tricorder. He wasn't in the habit of carrying that sort of thing, generally speaking that was more the science officers' department, but he had one for situations like this, where there was something that needed to be identified.
He scanned the circuit injector quickly, and the tricorder spit out a list of components, most of which were just things the injector was built out of. One component, though, stood out amongst the others, and made Scotty do a double take. He scanned it again, and gulped. "Oh, laddie, what the hell were you thinkin'?" he muttered. He realized at that moment that he held in his hands evidence of the mishap that had occurred here, evidence that could be quite incriminating for one particular Lieutenant. Maybe for himself, too, considering the fact that he was the one who'd sent Embry there. He groaned, and rubbed his forehead wearily, returning the circuit injector and the tricorder to his tool box.
"Well, that answers that, then." he said, sighing. Accelerant instead of buffer. What in the hell had distracted Embry so much that he'd forgotten to switch out something that crucial? "At least it'll be more fun than Embry's having." he said, giving Jamie a wry grin.
