PERSONALITY:
Q is a really complicated mix of things. Most predominantly you could compare him to a very spoiled rich young prince. Enternally bored by the things around him, yet always wanting more of the same things.

He expects awe and adoration from all those he meets, and is the very definition of vain, and self-centered. It's not that he does it to be off putting, it's just when you are an omnipresent immortal who isn't bound by time space or matter, you don't have a lot to fear or respect. He's got no sense of loyalty, and will do whatever he wants at any given moment, even if only on a whim.

He's constantly desiring to seek out new experiences, and sensations. Having lived for millenias, he has grown quite bored of all the ones so far. However he does find that sex and reproduction never grow old, he's learned to be a bit more choosey about the reproductive part. As for the sex, well he will pretty much bed down with anyone, any gender for any reason at any given time. He's got eternity to live, so he figures why not try it all?

Q does have a tendancy to be evil, and vindictive if pushed too far. He has a very gray set of morals, and often will partner with those that wish to cause harm on large civilizations, again, simply because. He loves nothing more than playing mind games on those he is interested in, thinking it a much better way to get to know someone than spending the time talking.

Underneath it all, there are very few redeeming qualities, but if he is gained as an ally, he is very helpful in his knowledge and power. However its the being able to stand him long enough that's the problem.

HISTORY:
Very little is known about The Q, they are a race almost as old as time itself. All of The Q are called Q, however they always seem to know specifically to which Q one is referring if more than one is present.

Our Q has lived an uncertain amount of time, not even he can remember really. Besides time matters little when one does not age, or die, and can travel through it instantaneously.

In general The Q had not yet done much to interact with the Federation at this point, most of them agreeing that it would be better to observe them until they stumbled upon their species, however a few did not agree to this and went about their lives, interacting with them.

Having heard that a Romulan called Nero altered the course of time, our Q grew incredibly infatuated with the new future, (which he visited several times) that he decided he must meet the ship that destroyed mighty Nero.

So now he has transported himself aboard the Enterprise, at least for as long as his interests hold, as he has other places to be too. One simply cannot spend all their time in one place.
