I was thinking that it would be quite funny if McCoy's ex-wife decided to catch a job on the Enterprise, or become a guest. Guest would probably be more fitting. Anyway. She probably heard of the whole Nero thing and wants to see what he is up to, but not in a huge good way. More of the bickering, nagging, way.
"It's just like you to go off and get in trouble, Leonard McCoy. It figures that you wouldn't listen to me and stay out of all this business! Now I'm here, worrying sick about you and you don't even call." "Holy hell, woman. You divorced me as I recall. I was the one who cared and you were the one who kept thinking I was no good. Thank you, by the way. I don't have to listen to constant nagging 24/7. All I ever tried to do was be good enough for you." "Oh really, Leonard? All you did was whine and rant about something! My mother, my friends, my cooking, everything! I had good reason to leave you. Oh and you're going to have to listen to my 'nagging' again. I am staying on the Enterprise for a while." "What?! I swear that I will throw you off the damn ship if you are in my ear every second of every day. And your mother, interestingly enough, was the reincarnation of the devil! I know this because I saw her sacrifice that cat of yours to Satan!" "Shut up, Leonard! You let him out and he never came back. Don't blame that on my mother. And it's too bad. I'm staying here for a while." "Fine. You should expect me to change my direction if I see you in the halls or to give you a deadly poison if I catch you in sickbay." "Fine!"
LoL. Sorry. I got carried away. Some comic relief stuff like that. I was thinking maybe Amy Adams, but it is really up to you.

I've been told I'm pretty good at sparring (and your example up there CRACKED ME UP!) I'd be willing to try her out. Just a question though...would this be a permanent character or sort of a 'mini-arc' storyline?

That is completely up to you. You can have her be a permanent resident aboard the Enterprise or not, but I plan for her to be around for a little while.
