APPEARANCE: Iona prefers to wear her own custom outfits even though she is part of the Enterprise. Her hair is usually worn in elegant due's, though she has refrained from using the traditional Betazoid wigs with animal cages due. In conjunction with her other crew members, she has adopted a sort of conservative look while on board the Enterprise, though while on her home planet, she wears clothes of a more looser nature. She is a very short woman, even for Betazoid's and as such stands out even more. Her eyes don't have the traditional black pupils, making her eyes more like her full-bloodied human counterparts.
PERSONALITY: There are many complex layers to Iona that help make her who she is. For starters, she is half Betazoid, and has had to deal with being different her whole entire life, which hasn't been easy. It's helped to make her slightly insecure about herself and where she fits in, not feeling completely human, but knowing that she's more than human as well. Whenever she's asked about her race, she tends to take offense easily.
For the most part, she is easy to know, as she doesn't believe in lying about herself. She is honest with whomever she comes into contact with, for better or worse. For those who have never come into contact with a Betazoid, such honesty can be an extreme put-off, and Iona has had to try and learn to curb her bluntness when around humans and the like. There's a part of her that has a bit of a rebellious streak, like her human father. Taking orders from others never sat too well with her and she struggled trying to adapt to life on Enterprise where she was not in a real position of power.
Because of her natural empathetic ability, she is able to connect to others on an emotional level that others cannot understand. This makes her the ideal person to go to when one needs someone to talk to and she takes this role extremely seriously as a result. Her telepathic abilities aren't as strong, and she prefers not to bother use them if she can avoid it. She's known for her extreme stubbornness and procrastination. She will honestly stand her ground on an issue, even if she's been proven wrong.
HISTORY: Born on the planet Betazed to a Betazoid mother, Io Llwellyn, and a human father, Peter Llwellyn, Iona Llwellyn was an oddity from the get go. Her father, Peter, was a spice smuggler who crash landed on Betazoid. Io instantly feel for the human man and the two struck up a controversial relationship, as she was to be married to a man that was bonded to her in childhood. Peter Llwellyn took to the exotic land instantly, seeing no reason to return to Earth. He immersed himself into the culture and soon, the natives appeared to welcome him within.
Io was a bit of a rebel in her own right. She balked at tradition and instantly welcomed Peter into her world and life. The two grew closer throughout their five year courtship. Io had always been interested in intergalactic affairs and when the time came for her to be ambassador for Betazed, she instantly took up the challenge. While Io was away, Peter took it upon himself to learn all that he could about his new world. Many found the human to be rather odd, but instead of ignore him, they taught him what he wanted to learn.
Peter and Io decided that it was time to make their union more official and they wed after their fifth anniversary. A year later, in the year 2236, their first child, Iona, was born. Io was a very distant mother at first. She left Peter to do most of the work in regards to their child as she felt the girl wouldn't be as strong mentally as the other Betazoid children. Though her prediction was correct, she was surprised at times when her daughter showed talents unbecoming of someone with human blood. Io decided to take a step back and be more of a mother to her daughter.
Iona, a few years later, was joined by a brother, Patrick. Iona and Patrick bonded instantly and though their telepathic connections were relatively weak, it was the strongest when they were around each other. The "House of Llwellyn", as it would come to be called, would rise in importance, with Io becoming, for a time being, part of the Federation Council, though she resigned after serving only two years. After her stint in politics, Io decided it was time for her to teach her children and decided to leave the political world behind for the moment.
Peter took it upon himself to fulfill his dreams and started building mini ships, with Patrick helping. Io took this as her cue to teach her eldest daughter all that she could. Iona was naturally interested in the kind of work her mother did and wanted desperately to join Starfleet. Her mother, however, had other plans for her. She wanted her to eventually marry a nice boy, Kendall Reeves, son of the Second House. Iona showed little to know interest in such endeavors and often times spent much of her time in her room reading about the adventures of so many others. She was starting to grow restless and bored.
Io's father started one of the primary learning centers for Betazoid children and upon the time Iona entered, she was already rather knowledgeable. It was here that she learned how to better master her telepathy. Even though she had trained rather hard, she knew that she was still know match for the other, full blood children and finally made the conscious decision to work more on her empathy skills than her telepathy, much to her mother's dismay. She was also starting to grow further away from her father. Peter had become obsessed with building a ship powerful enough to take him wherever he wanted and as such, started to grow more and more distant with his family. Io eventually left Peter.
Peter and Patrick, who were extremely close, left the House of Llwellyn when Iona was roughly 12 years old. This damaged her relationship with her brother and the two would go on to have a sort of estranged relationship from that point on. She relied more heavily on her mother from this point on, but was also starting to show a more independent side to her as well. At the age of 15, she applied for Starfleet and was shocked and relieved when she got her letter of acceptance. It was here that she finally became the person she so desperately wanted to be and after her mandatory four year stay was over, she returned to her homeland of Betazed as a cadet. She had planned to return for the Academy the following year when tragedy struck.
Peter's mind had seemed to deteriorate the longer he was away from Io. Apparently, they had had some sort of mental bond when they first met and when he seemed to "break" away from her, he lost a lot of himself. He was working on his ship when a lever holding the ship broke and the ship fell on top of him, crushing and killing him instantly. Io, though separated from Peter for years, was nonetheless distraught over his death. Iona took the news hard and opted to skip on her Academy entrance exams until she felt her mother was well again.
Her brother Patrick had disappeared after their father's death and Iona hadn't the time, energy or strength to seek him out. She never heard from him again, which only further broke her mother's heart. After a few months of mourning, Iona returned to the Academy and took the necessary exams. She passed and decided that a life as a wife on Betazed was not what she wanted. She wanted to teach children of different races, as well as counsel those who needed help. For someone so young, this was seen as a complete break with tradition. Io, though not happy with her daughter, nonetheless accepted what was the truth.
Iona took her knowledge and skills to various ships before finally finding a home at the Enterprise. Her unique abilities have become an asset at times, and other times have hindered her slightly. To her, there's still much to learn and she is trying to improve all the time. For now, she's just intent on teaching and doing what she does best: listening.

NAME/ALIAS: Jasmine HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN RPING: Since 2005 WHERE DID YOU FIND US: Proboards Support DID YOU READ THE RULES: Yes; Pilgrim RP SAMPLE: Slowly but surely the time had come. She knew what was happening, but she didn't want to admit it. What time was it? Was this some sort of dream? It was hard to tell, the way things had be going lately. Iona sat up in her room, the essence of the dreams she just had slowly fading away. She looked around, trying to recall what had just happened, but nothing. Looking down at her bed, she merely sighed. She should have known better than to sneak around at night. What was she thinking? These dreams were getting more vivid, but she wasn't any closer to figuring them out and that was what was most frustrating to her.
She hated falling asleep and hated dreaming. None of them made any sense and anytime she told someone a dream, they laughed and shook it off. To her, they were more than useless memories or images. It all meant something. It had to. She didn't posses any precognitive abilities, but she knew or at least could feel when something wasn't right. Her dreams, as well as her empathic ability gave her that foresight to know and she never took it for granted. Iona slowly removed herself from her bed and stretched. She didn't even bother look at the clock. It was probably early. She wasn't much of a sleeper, for better or worse.
She wasn't quite sure what her plans were and took in a few deep breaths before walking out of her quarters and into the hallways. It was moderately busy, but no one paid the pajama-clad woman any attention. A few smiled at her, but most who passed her by were busy with their own thoughts that they didn't notice her. She bit her lip, many thoughts on her mind. None of them would make any sense to anyone else, but she knew what it all meant. It was something, had to be. Something was happening, something was going on and she wanted to know what it was before it happened. It was better to try and figure this out before telling anyone what she thought, however.
She walked into Sickbay and leaned against a wall. One of the nurses was there and walked towards her. "Iona...are you well?" She asked her. Iona looked at the nurse and smiled weakly. "Yes...but...is the doctor in? I...those dreams...." She started, but never finished. The nurse ushered her further into the large room and made her sit, which she did. She looked around and massaged her forehead. She was never so glad that she was not a skilled telepath. She wouldn't have been able to handle it on a day like today. The nurse returned and said, "I'm afraid the doctor is out. Would you care to wait for him?"
