APPEARANCE: Eishe's appearance is probably the least static thing about her, but in general, she takes on a human form, the one she was born with, and the one she didn't think she had any choice about until she was twenty. She's not tall, and she carries herself with an air of caution, as if she's not sure what's waiting around the next corner. Her father was Chinese, and while Eishe herself was born in Florida, nowhere near that particular country, she definitely inherited most of his physical characteristics. She has dark hair which is thin and has an annoying tendency to escape from whatever manner of containing it she attempts to restrain it with, and dark brown eyes that appear even darker in contrast to her pale skin.
She doesn't usually bother much with makeup, but she tries to make herself look presentable, at least as much as she can without taking time away from the things she's supposed to be doing. She has always been quite good at hiding what she's thinking, and unless she wants them to, her facial features usually don't betray her in that aspect. Generally speaking, Eishe doesn't shift unless she has a damned good reason to, so this is usually her form. There are three forms that are listed on her record; the one she usually has, a young man who looks a great deal like her usual form, and an old woman, but since she contrived those, she has discovered a few others. It's important to note, though, that shifting is incredibly difficult for her, and she does not undertake it lightly.
PERSONALITY: When Eishe was younger, she was moderately outgoing, as a lot of youngsters tend to be. However, with the revelation of the nature of her birth, Eishe became much more inwardly focused. She's not shy in the truest sense of the word; she can be sociable if she needs to be, but she usually has other things on her mind and can come off as distant or even aloof to some people who don't know her. She rarely goes out of her way to meet new people, and tends to avoid them, not because she's afraid of them, but because she's gotten tired of asking questions.
Interestingly enough, given Eishe's medical history, she despises doctors of any sort. She managed to avoid them for the first half of her life, and didn't have much trouble with her health, but after getting into a minor car accident in high school, her parents finally had to inform the doctors of the dual nature of Eishe's birth. From there on out, she was poked, prodded, examined, questioned, and subjected to whatever tests doctors could ethically get away with, and ever since then, she's steered clear of doctors and even other scientists as much as she can. Understandably, she has to work with other researchers sometimes, that's the nature of being a research biologist, but she avoids it when she can.
She has a no-nonsense sort of exterior, and anyone who's ever gotten close to her will tell you that she has next to no sense of humor, either. Usually, if she laughs, it's at something most other people don't find amusing at all. Another facet to Eishe's personality is that she is as two-sided as her very nature would imply. She adapts well to her surroundings, and is good at picking up on the mood of a situation, which has allowed her to pass through most of her life without stirring up too much trouble. Generally speaking, she tries to go where she is needed and do as she is told unless she personally objects to what's being asked of her.
There is also a note on her psychiatrist's record (she has undergone counseling since the first time she discovered that she could shift) that she has suffered some gender confusion in the past; this mostly occurs for a few days after she shifts to any form outside her own gender. It doesn't appear to have permanent damage, but it is obvious to anyone she knows that something changes when she's taken on another form, something that runs much deeper than her physical appearance. It was her psychiatrist's opinion that perhaps the reason for this was that perhaps Eishe's mind is more human than Chameloid, and that this may cause a problem for her in a hormonal aspect - perhaps the human mind is not equipped to deal with that kind of change.
HISTORY: Eishe was nearly born on a touring boat off the coast of Miami, Florida. Her parents were on vacation there, and she wasn't expected for another three weeks, so it was something of a surprise when her mother went into labor two miles from land. Apparently, the stress of seasickness had accelerated things, but she was lucky enough that they made it back to land, and a hospital, before she was born. Thus began what would be a somewhat tumultuous existence for the first and only child of Delenn and Garen Kieran.
Her first few years were remarkably uneventful. She went to the usual schools, made friends, and demonstrated an interest in science starting in the fifth grade, an interest that would not diminish even with the stressful events that began when she moved on to high school. It was in high school, when Eishe was sixteen, that her mother and father finally decided to inform her that she was only half human. Her mother, as it turned out, was Chameloid, and had come to earth some years earlier - a number of years, as it seemed Chameloids had a lifespan significantly longer than humans, probably due to their ability to restructure themselves - where she had met and fallen in love with Eishe's father.
Eishe found this all a little disconcerting, but after seeing her mother's abilities, her intrigue with biology was only fortified. She decided that, given her heritage, it would only be fitting to enlist in Starfleet, which she did upon her graduation from high school. It was not clear, at this point, whether she would inherit any of her mother's abilities, but in spite of the fact that she tried, it didn't seem so. It wasn't until she was twenty that she managed to shift at all, and to this day, she can still only manage to change to very rudimentary humanoid forms. She can change gender, and she can manage certain similar forms (those that have a lot in common with humans, like Vulcans and others), but changing to something drastically different (like a Klingon or an Andorian) is all but impossible for her.
She went through the Academy with clear goals in mind; being the only half-Chameloid she knew posed interesting anatomical and molecular mysteries that she was determined to figure out. What her own abilities had the potential to develop into; whether there were any risks associated with trying to do alien things with a body that was half human, these things fascinated her, and for her own reasons as much as her interest in other things, she devoted herself to the study of alien-human hybrid intricacies, mostly on the molecular level, particularly when it came to molecular genetics.
Her assignment to the Enterprise was another stepping stone on her quest; having found no evidence of other Chameloids at all, much less those who had reproduced with humans, she was determined that, even if she had to travel into the distant reaches of space, someday she would find others of similar genetic makeup, and maybe she would find answers to the questions she had been asking since she was sixteen.
