APPEARANCE:
Jayanti inherited her mother's Indian looks as opposed to her father's European ones, gracing her with an appearance that could be considered exotic to some. However, in this century where species from all across the universe co-exist, she merely looks "human". Her skin is mocha brown and tans easily as opposed to burning when in the sun. Her hair is long and black, though she usually keeps it tied back out of her way rather than letting it fall in its naturally flat layers around her face. Her eyes are brown, once again like her mother, and could be described as "gentle" or "soulful", though the moment she experiences a passionate emotion, they reflect whatever she is feeling, whether she is inspired or pissed off. She has a slender, but athletic, build that could be likened to a dancer's.
PERSONALITY:
Diligent and dutiful, Jayanti is one of those people that will get the job done, no matter what it is. She prides herself on her hard work ethic, despite being on the lower end of the command chain. Her commanding officers have often noted that if they need someone who will get something done, and get it done right the first time, they should call on her. Even when it comes to volunteering for duty, she always does her best. She also has a very quick learning curve. The reason for this certainly has to do with an innate curiosity that demands she learn everything she can about a subject she knows nothing about. She researches, studies, reads, and applies until she considers herself an expert. She has never taken her age or inexperience into question, but always strives to do everything possible she can. This is one of the many qualities about her that people have commented would make her an excellent cadet at the Academy, as she'd likely advance quickly. However, she's content with where she is right now. She does not possess a desire to be at the top. As much as she respects and admires the officers, she would really prefer to stay where she is. Her reasoning? Although she works hard and could probably be an good officer, she doesn't want all of that responsibility or stress. That, and she is aware that there is a certain amount of politics one would have to endure, and that's not what she wants either. To put it simply, she just enjoys her job and wants to do it to the best of her ability. Sure, she has her dreams and aspirations, but becoming a senior officer is not among them. She just wants to do her best, not necessarily be the best.
Ever the optimist, this girl seems to have a permanent smile on her face and an encouraging word for everyone. She's a sweetheart, and you don't have to look very hard to figure that out. Her good sense of humor helps her keep from stressing out and panicking, and being someone who believes there is a solution to every problem, she tends to do fairly well under stressful situations. No, she's not one of those people that keep their normal composure in extremely dire situations, but she's not among those screaming, pointing fingers, or ready to jump ship, either. Instead, she's found a comfortable medium between the two, where you know when she is stressed, but you can also tell she's not goint to let it take over her. Anyway, back to the optimism part. As stated, Scout is a cheerful girl. She will always attempt to alleviate a heavy mood with a joke or smile, whether it is appropriate or appreciated or not. She believes you have to stay positive, or else "they" have already won. Once you lose hope, you lose motivation, which means you just plain lose. That's her philosophy. She's one of those people that would much rather have false hope than a painful truth. Hope keeps her going - it's what got her to where she is today. The moment this girl loses hope... well, then you know things are really bad.
Growing up in a criminal lifestyle, Scout has learned how to look after herself. She can handle herself in a physical fight and has what are commonly referred to as "street smarts." It is very hard to pull a fast on one her, since there was a time when she was the con artist rather than the one getting conned. She's very good at slight of the hand tricks, causing distractions, and over all just getting herself into trouble. However, she is also very good at getting herself out of trouble. She's clever and resourceful, able to use whatever is around her to her advantage. From breaking out of a cell to talking her way out of disciplinary action, she's a wily one, one that you have to keep an eye on at all times in order to make sure she doesn't pull a Houdini Act. Because she is so dutiful, most people don't expect this part of her. When it comes to authority figures, she usually keeps herself in check unless either A: she knows it will be appreciated or B: she honestly feels she was wrongly acted against. Although she has these skills and abilities, she doesn't just do it for kicks. She would much rather catch people off guard with them than have a reputation regarding these abilities. It's all about the element of surpise, which is why she honestly doesn't mind being underestimated.
If you ever have the unfortunate pleasure of being in the same general vicinity as Jayanti when she gets bored, you'll quickly come to realize she turns to mischief and pranks to keep herself entertained. Putting someone's phaser in jello, balding cream in someone's shampoo, just add water gravy in the shower head... the list is virtually endless. Who she is pranking plays a great deal in the level of prank she does; she is not about to do any of the aforementioned practical jokes on Commander Spock, for instance. In fact, when bored and in a mischievous mood, she's likely to just remind herself to steer clear of him as to avoid any embarrassing situations. She is likely, however, to get into little pranks wars with people that share her love for practical jokes and mischief, and she is also likely to team up with someone. Mischief is much more fun when you have someone to share it with.
HISTORY: Born on star date 2239.59, also known as April 1st or April Fool's Day. Giving birth to a little baby girl isn't something that can be quickly followed up with "April Fool's!", however, so there was no real joke to the birth. It happened. She was born in Mumbai, India to her mother, Sohalia Singh. At the time, her father was not around, nor did he have any intention to be around in the future. He was a space pirate and had stopped in India on Earth only for stealing the native spices and such. Sohalia, only twenty one at the time, was fascinated by his tales of adventure and danger and the two began a very short lived romance. The baby was named Jayanti Latika Singh. She held this name for five years, living in Mumbai with her mother. About that time, her father returned for more "booty", in more ways than one if you get my meaning. You can imagine his surprise then, when he went to Sohalia's home and was greeted by a hyperactive small child who acted too much like him in some ways to make him comfortable. Sohalia admitted the child was his, which nearly made him leave and never come back, but there must have been something he saw in his young daughter that made him stay.
Although they didn't officially marry, Sohalia and John, and England native, started a fairly dysfunctional family. He still left often to continue his piracy, as nothing could make him forsake that thrilling life. But whenever he had down time, he would return to their small home in the city. He began teaching his daughter about space, about the ships, and about piracy. His stories fascinated her, much as they did her mother, and she wanted to join him. Naturally, it wouldn't do to have a child on the ship, so he said no.
When Jayanti was nine, her mother became very ill and passed away. As her father was currently doing God knows what, God knows where, she started to look after herself until he returned. For three months she lived by stealing once she ran out of food and money, using the tricks her father taught her. She nearly got caught a good dozen times, but by the time John returned, she had a good system down. Unable to leave his daughter behind, he spoke with his Captain, promised him she could be useful, and then brought her aboard. For the next seven years, Jayanti lived as a pirate. She took on her father's surname, Williams. Jayanti Singh disappeared and any family of her mother that may have tried to find her certainly had no luck. She started to mimic a lot of her father, from his mischievous personality even to his English accent. In order to move past her mother's death, she tried to sever all ties to her and India and succeeded in many aspect. It was easier for her to forget than to try and deal with it.
She quickly became the adopted daughter of many men and women of all different species aboard the ship. She was a little ray of sunshine, but with a sharp mind that enabled her to quickly learn anything anyone was willing to teach her. She learned hand to hand combat, how to fire phasers, the general layout of the ship, some basics of engineering and many other aspects of the ship and how it worked. Basically, she recieved an education of most normal teenagers plus a little more, only it was done "hands on" rather than in a classroom. She also learned how to con people, steal, play tricks, etc. Although it wasn't common, she did help on a couple raids, either as a distraction or an unlikely culprit. When she was thirteen, they started using her on different planets to scout out security and whatnot, as a young teenage girl asking a few questions and looking around curiously wasn't as suspicious as a couple weapon bearing men. This is when she gained the nickname Scout which as stuck with her. When Jayanti was seventeen, she started considering doing something other than piracy. As much as she enjoyed it, she wanted to do something else... something more honest. She knew she couldn't speak to her father or anyone else aboard the ship about it, as they were very careful to remain secret and elusive, and wouldn't want a young girl wandering around the galaxy ruining it for them. That was never in her plans, but she still decided it would be best to keep it to herself. While on Earth for supplies, she snuck off the ship. That was the last she saw of her father and his pirate crew. While aboard the pirate starship, Jayanti had become very interested in the engineering aspect of it. She decided to pursue that and, as an emancipated teen, enlisted. She got and provided fake documents about her graduating from high school, researched and studied hard to make sure she knew everything she should know that she didn't already, and was able to get into the Technical Institute. The following year, she graduated with an Engineer Tech license. At first, she worked on ships that docked at the star base, though following the successful return of the USS Enterprise from its defeat of the Romulan invaders from the future, she was assigned to the Enterprise, under the command of Captain James Kirk and Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott. She has a very good record behind her and is noted for having a quick learning curve and almost natural talent when it comes to Engineering. After one year in service, she was given the title to Technician, 1st Class and Petty Officer. She is still subordinate to all the commissioned officers, but this is fine with her. She is simply happy to be able to work and is glad she hasn't been caught... yet.
NOTE TO THE ADMINS: as I realize this could be considered an overly dramatic history, what with her being a former pirate and all (xD) so if that's not okay, just let me know and I'll change it. Also, I hope it okay she's a non commissioned officer? I wasn't sure, but I wanted to do something a little different. ^^

ACCEPTEDWell done! Don't forget to go to the claims and get up a subplots to get your roleplaying started. Hope you have fun!
PS Why not to the whole petty officer thing? I'm sure it won't hurt, but you will still be under the group cadet.
